What Exactly Are Asian Citrus Psyllid and Huanlongbing?

The psyllids feed on the leaves and stems of flushing new growth on citrus trees and can infect the tree with the bacterium that causes HLB.

Once a citrus tree is infected with HLB, it will produce green, misshapen and bitter fruit, which is subject to heavy drop and infection from secondary pathogens.

Am I at Risk?

All citrus is at risk. The Asian citrus psyllid has been found in 20 California counties and it’s spreading. If the insect is found near you, don’t wait to see what happens. Take immediate action by contacting your local grower liaison. Time is critical to keep the psyllid and HLB from spreading across the state.

What Can I Do?

Take action to combat Asian citrus psyllid and HLB through preventive treatment and coordinated area wide treatment. Educate your friends, family and neighbors who might have a citrus tree in their own yards. With citrus trees in the backyards of as many as 60 percent of California homeowners, it is vital to health of the industry to reduce the risk of infection from residential trees to commercial citrus groves.
